Matthew 2:8 (KJV)
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
Herod would soon believe he had been mocked by the wise men when, obeying the Lord, they departed another way without returning to him. Yet in truth, Herod was mocking them first when he said, “that I may come and worship Him also.”
Our world is filled with mockery of Christ.
- Some mock His deity.
- Some mock His Word.
- Some mock His miracles.
And beyond this, there is mockery even in forms of worship.
- They mock Him by mixing paganism with worship.
- They mock Him by mixing worldliness with worship.
- They mock Him by mixing contemporary theology with worship.
In the end, they mock Him because they put themselves above Him as god.
Worship of Christ is always a mockery, unless it is in absolute submission to Him.
