And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Ever since the fall of Adam—in fact, even before it, before the foundations of the world—it has been both the intent of God and the necessity of all things that they be made new. The flood proved that simple reformation was insufficient. God even hinted at starting over with Moses, but such a plan would not have worked.
The metaphor of the potter and the clay addresses God’s greater plan. He does more than make new creatures of us. As the potter, He will begin again and form a new Jerusalem, new heavens, and a new earth. If you think of us as the clay He uses in shaping these “all things new,” you begin to grasp the necessity of such long, drawn-out measures before the new creation begins.
This process has included the creation and fall of Adam and Eve, the rebellion of Lucifer—the tool of deception, their removal from the garden and the tree of life, the corruption of their children and descendants, the calling of a man through whom the Saviour would come, and all the spiritual and practical lessons we learn from them. It continued through the coming of the Saviour, His rejection and crucifixion, the calling out of Christians, the founding of churches, and the distortions that arose through universal theology. Still ahead are the future Tribulation, the Millennial Kingdom, and the final battle at the end of that reign.
All of it has been known by God; graciously endured, and carefully orchestrated under the hands of our Almighty Potter, with this final goal: “Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
Something beautiful can only be created through planning, preparation, and careful craftsmanship. What God will bring forth at the end of time will be more beautiful than we can possibly imagine. Don’t let a lack of faith cause you to miss it.
