Job 8:7 (KJV)
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
John Gill says, "Bildad seems to have spoken under a spirit of prophecy, without being sensible of it, and not imagining in the least that so it would be in fact."
The Pulpit Commentary suggests that Bildad was speaking sarcastically.
I can't help but wonder what Bildad's reaction was by the end of Job's trial. Did he remember what he had said?
I am convinced Bildad spoke with the wrong heart. Yet what he said did come to pass.
Many people know what the Bible promises. They repeat those promises with mockery or skepticism, never believing they will actually be fulfilled.
We're not there yet.
But what a day it will be when mockers, scoffers, and antagonists of the faith witness the culmination of God's plan.
Our place is not to rejoice in their downfall, but to pray for them and faithfully preach the gospel so they may come to faith before that day arrives.
