In me is thine help

Hosea 13:9 KJV
O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

Barnes' Notes says, " The sum of the meaning is, all our destruction is from ourselves; all our salvation is from God..."[1] Gill reminds us that though God had been a lion and leopard and a bear to Israel, yet their destruction was of their own doing and not of God's. Our troubles are of our doing. God will surely chasten us in correction and turning us back to Himself, but the root problem is our own and not the fault of the Lord's.

Still, though our destruction is all our own fault, our help, deliverance, and salvation is all fro the hand of God. This is the ultimate in grace and mercy; we are completely responsible for our sinful condition but completely helpless to fix it. God, who is not responsible in the least for our destruction is wholly responsible for our help.

How gracious is our God!
