Acts 2:24 KJV
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Jesus Christ rose from the dead and loosed the pains of death because it was not possible that He should be holden of it.
The miracle was that He died at all because, as God, death had no mastery over Him.
It is appointed unto men once to die, but that is because of our inherited sin nature. Jesus had no such nature. Death had no hold upon Him. God did not have to die but chose to die in our place.
The very choice required that God
• Identify with sinful man
• Lay aside His eternal glory (though He did not lay aside His deity)
• Accept the abuse of sinful man and
• Of His own self give up the ghost
Man slew Him, but man did not take His life from Him.
I say again, the miracle is not that He rose. It was impossible for death to keep Him. The miracle is that He died.
And that He died for me.
