Sleepless Nights

Esther 6:1 KJV

On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.

The King had been played.

A wickedness that was planted of Satan into the heart of Haman had led to a proposal that the King had agreed to, but had done so through a misplaced trust in the man Haman. It isn't possible for one man to know all perspectives of everything under his charge; it's why we learn to delegate. But in this case an evil had infiltrated the king's cabinet and the target was the people of God.

The volley of evil was answered when God gave that king a sleepless night. Rather than tossing and turning, he put his sleeplessness to good work and began to review the court records. It was there that he learned that Mordicai had saved the king's life and there that he learned that Mordicai had not been acknowledged for his favor toward the king.

God used a sleepless night to set the thinking of the King straight.

And I am asking God to give our leaders more sleepless nights, more nights used productively to discover truth they have previously not discovered, more time searching records that will lead them to favor God and His will.

  • I am praying our President can't sleep. (Of course I am speaking metaphorically)
  • I am praying that those in the house, legislature and court systems find themselves compelled to search that book of records our nation's founders searched when seeking to put together a form of government meant to protect the people from all evils, including those of an oppressive government.
  • I am praying that the leaders of communist, socialist and Islamic governments have sleepless nights driving them to seek out the truth that only the Living God possesses.

I am praying for sleepless Christians who will spend those waking hours before the Lord, begging for a revival in our land.
