They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because
I follow the thing that good is.
For all
those who criticize the KJV for its old English, there are some wonderful
phrases that reach to loftier places than do any of the modern versions. God is
brought down in the minds of men by bringing the Bible down to a lower form of
speech.
Gill
identifies those things "that
good is" as
- His good God, whom he followed hard
after
- The good shepherd of the sheep
- The good spirit of God
- Good and holy men whom he took as
examples and
- Every good work which he pursued
with pleasure
David
was a sinful man and acknowledged that sin in this Psalm. He confessed that
God's judgment of him was just. But he also admitted that the thing he followed
after was "that
thing that good is."
May
many more do the same.
