95:10 KJV
Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It
is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
I read these words and am fearful of grieving the Lord. He
kept His grief forty full years. He abhorred that generation until every one of
them had passed.
God is gracious and merciful but God is also just.
Therefore a man must never expect that mercy of God until it has kissed the
truth of righteousness through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- For
forty years God watched them
- For
forty years God waited as they wasted away in death
- For
forty years God kept His sentence upon them
God made a promise that the Jews would return to the land
He had given them. But for forty years He withheld His promise until He had
executed His sentence.
