Acts 19:27 KJV
So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
Demetrius betrays what are his true motives and what are the motives of all that are in the world. The worship of Diana was famous in Ephesus but it was also by that worship he made his wealth. While he could appeal to the masses in Diana's defense, his motive was, first and foremost, to maintain his wealth and livelihood.
So must we be on constant guard for this conflict within our own hearts.
- On the one hand we are believers
- On the other, we derive benefits from our faith
We have to be always watchful that we do not let the preservation of our benefits take precedence over the elevation of our God.
