Galatians 4:17-18 KJV
They zealously affect you, but not well; yea,
they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.
But it is good to be zealously affected always
in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
"Affected" has to do with emotions. The apostle reminds them
that when he was with them they became strongly emotional about the things of
God. They loved him and they loved his message. But soon after he left false
apostles had entered into the congregation and stolen that affection.
- As easily affected as they were to the
truth, so easily affected were they to false doctrines
- As quickly as they had learned to love
Paul, so quickly they had fallen for these false apostles and turned
against Paul
Paul in no way disparages zeal and emotional passion for the things of
God. It is good for us to be emotionally as well as intellectually and
spiritually committed to the things of God. But we must be careful that our
emotions are governed by truth and not the other way around.
