Psalms 53:2 KJV
God looked down from heaven upon the children of
men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
The passage is a familiar one, being quoted in the book of Romans, but
it begins with a blunt phrase whose lesson is oft found in the holy pages. God
looks down upon the children of men.
The context tells me that we are here focused on the unsaved. The term
"children of men" is used more than once to address those who are
other than the sons of God. The unbeliever frequently feels he has a pass from
spiritual obligation. He is tragically mistaken. Hebrews 9:27 says, "…it is
appointed unto men once to die…". He will face the grave whether he
believes the Bible or not. Hebrews goes on to say, "…and
after this, the judgment." As true as it is that all men will die,
so it is true that all men will afterwards face judgment.
While the context concerns the unsaved, the Christian May take comfort
that God also looks down from heaven upon him. We have not been left here
to our own devices. God has given us
- The indwelling Holy Spirit
- The infallible Word of God
- The immutable promise of Christ's coming and
- The unwavering assurance of His watchful care
Be comforted and be confident as you journey through this life.
