Psalms 50:5 KJV
Gather my saints together unto me; those that
have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
The world, due to the influence of the Catholic Church, has the concept
of saint messed up. The Catholics have turned sainthood into a sort of
promotion that extends beyond the grave; one who has climbed the ranks of
Catholic hierarchy while on the earth, might, if his or her deeds were of a
particular sort, gain further promotions after the grave. What audacity! The
Catholic Church claims the power to grant rewards beyond the grave!
The Bible is quite clear what a saint is, and it is nothing near to the
Catholic concept. Truth be told, the saint is the beginning place of Biblical
Christianity. It is where we all start as believers; the sacrifice of Christ on
the cross.
The context clearly reveals that the sacrifice that leads to sainthood
could never be man made:
- God would not take a bull or goat for such a
thing vs 9
- God has no desire for the sacrifice of fowls or
beasts vs 11
- God has no taste for meat or meal offerings vs 12
Thanksgiving, praise, worship; these are the things that matter to a god
and these are all the result or fruit of God's work in us.
The saint is a born again believer, simply thankful for What God has
done in his life..
