Romans 3:1-2 KJV
What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit
is there of circumcision?
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them
were committed the oracles of God.
The Apostle had just finished arguing that there is no difference
between the Jew and the Gentile:
- They could equally be saved
- God was no respecter of one over the other
- They each had a law written in their hearts
Anticipating that a
Jew would object then that there was no advantage to being a Jew; to this
objection Paul answered that there is an advantage - chiefly, that to them had
been committed God's Word.
Consider the
advantages that belong to us[1] in
possessing, learning and delivering to others the message of the Bible:
- It is greater than fame, power and earthly riches
- It is grander than being born to royalty
- It is farther reaching than having our names in history
- It has more influence than sitting in high public office
The Word of God is
not an idol that we bow down to but it is our connection with the mind of God.
- To possess it then is a tremendous advantage
- To know and obey it is to touch the heavenlies
