When Looking for the Lord is Not a Blessing

Amos 5:18
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

Amos 5:21
I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

There is such a thing as the unfortunate soul who believes he will go to heaven, believes he is a child of God believes that he is one of Christ's own, but he is mistaken. He has placed his hope in false assurances. He believes that things like:
·       Baptism
·       Church membership
·       Communion
or some other good or religious deed has saving merit. His hope for heaven is based upon the word of men and not the witness of the Holy Spirit.

God said to the Jews that He hated and despised their religious celebrations. It was not that the feast day itself was a terrible thing; God had established many of those feast days Himself. However, these Jews had perverted the feasts into something despicable to the Lord.

People many people are in the same trouble today. Their hopes for heaven are falsely founded. Christ's coming for his own will be a day of darkness and not of light for them.
·       They think they have escaped the lion, but a bear is about to pounce upon them
·       They think they are safe at home but a snake is about to bite them
·       They think they see the light but darkness is about to overtake them

The Bible says to make our calling and election sure[1]. It is only secure when it is out of our hands and left completely in the hands of Christ[2].

[1] 2 Peter 1:10
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
[2] 2 Timothy 1:12
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
