Where One Sin Might Lead

Genesis 16:1 KJV
Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

Hagar was an Egyptian. Though the Bible does not clearly tell us when Hagar came under the house of Abram we can surmise that it must have been after Abram traveled there for the famine. The Bible tells us that pharaoh had maids and manservants and animals, suggesting that these were given to Abram. If this is the case then the sin of Abram and Sarai concerning Hagar is linked to the sun of Abram going to Egypt in the first place. This sin grows into troubles for Abraham's children, that exists to this very day.

Is there not a lesson for us in this?

We never know where one small lapse of faith may lead. We never know the final consequences of committing a sin, no matter how small it might seem to be. We justify and excuse and willfully sin believing we have gotten away with it. The truth is our children may pay for that sin for generations to come.
