1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV)
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
This passage is notable for its singular nature:
- One God
- One mediator
- The man Christ Jesus
For this reason it is remarkable to find such a plurality in the midst of it. Fact is, I think I have misquoted it for years saying, “between God and man”. The verse says “men”. Plural=more than one. I believe in fact it means “all men”.
One mediator is sufficient for all men. God, who is one, is appeased not by the multiplicity of mediators:
- Mohammed for the Muslims
- Buddha for the oriental people’s
- Spiritism for the animists
There is but one mediator necessary and only one mediator that is acceptable to God, the man Christ Jesus.
