Ephesians 2:15 (KJV)
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
This appears to me to hearken back to Genesis 2:24 and ties this passage to Ephesians chapter five. Just as marriage takes two people with:
- Different family blood
- Different cultural backgrounds and interests
- Different traditions
- Different tastes and dislikes
and makes the two, one flesh, so does the church with Jews and Gentiles.
- The one was nigh unto God, the other far off
- The one was steeped in godly traditions, the other in worldly ones
- The one was the family of the Messiah, the other was ignorant of His promise
The years of difference had driven such a wedge between the two that the enmity was thick and impenetrable.
Christ reconciled the two, not by compromising the one with the other, but by making from the two one new man.
That new man resides within the church. We must never make light of it. We must always draw more to it.
