Ephesians 4:16 (KJV)
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Unity in the church is the effect of every member’s participation. This verse phrases it, “that which every joint supplieth.”
The importance of every member of the church just can’t be overstated. It is true that some members will be:
- more active
- more visible and
- more acknowledged
It is not true that any one member is more important than another.
That’s why one of the tasks of those in the ministry is to perfect and mature every member. The preacher must make himself aware of each and every one that he might:
- Pray for them
- Encourage them and
- Build them up in the Lord.
It is easy to focus on those who insist on more attention or to focus on those who are the busiest and most reliable. That’s a mistake. The most reliable servers probably should get the lion’s share of the preacher’s attention but they should certainly not get all of it.
And those who demand attention? They are a drain on the unity, not a part of it.
