2 Peter 2:1 (KJV)
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that those who would twist the Scripture in one thing would twist it in others as well?
The modern false teacher wrests the Word of God in a number of subtle ways. In other ways their error is not so subtle. Only those who refuse to see would not see these false teachings. A simple one is discovered in this very passage; the Apostle Peter makes a distinction between those false prophets (in the Old Testament era) and false teachers (in the current era).
- Prophets are past, even the false ones
- Teachers are current, even the false ones
Those who claim to be prophets, and those who follow after them are equally blind and blatantly rebellious against the Word of God. It cannot be that they do not know what the Bible says. It is too plain, and they are not ashamed to promote at least some version of the Bible to their peers.
No, the issue is rebellion. The issue is twisting the Word of God whenever it teaches something they dislike (such as women preaching) or else ignoring the Word of God whenever it denounces something they do (such as claiming the office of prophet).
Any one of us is capable of being blind to the clear teaching of a passage that contradicts our preconceived or cultural ideas concerning the faith.
To reject that teaching once it has been made clear to us is dangerous for our spiritual well being and for the advancement of the Christian faith to future generations.
