James 4:15 (KJV)
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
This or that.
It means anything and everything. It means
- the little and the large,
- the significant and insignificant.
It is not unlike us to consign the bigger things of life to God; those things that are beyond us to such an extent that they really need none of our attention because none an influence these things anyway. It’s fate. It’s just the way things shake out – to give these to the will of God may bring some comfort.
But this passage implies things of another sort, things that are influenced by our will. These things too are equally befitting consideration of the Lord’s will.
