Ezekiel 35:5 (KJV)
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
The subject of the passage is Mount Seir or the Edomites, the descendants of Esau. Though Jacob and Esau seemed to have resolved their differences, the children of Esau carried a perpetual grudge.
- They never forgave
- They never sought peace
Even when it became obvious that Israel had been
- Humbled,
- Chastened and
- Judged
for her iniquities, even when reasonable antagonists would have been pacified, Seir remained hateful. God’s judgment would turn against them because of it.
Holding a grudge is always much worse on the one holding it than the one against whom it is held.
