Revelation 7:9 (KJV)
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
There are more people who are lost in this world than we who are saved can imagine.
- Of the seven billion people in the world, less than two percent, I understand, profess to be Christian.
- Of those who profess to be Christian, the majority, I understand, do so in contrast to Islam. They only claim to be Christian to make it clear that they are not Muslim.
- Of those who practice a form of Christianity, most of them are part of a ritualistic system like Catholicism, or a mainline Protestant denomination
- Of those who participate in a Christianity that encourages a relationship with Christ many, like the Churches of Christ, are confused about the Gospel.
Even in churches where the gospel is clearly preached huge numbers of people allow pride to keep them from submissive faith in Christ. In other words, only a small minority of the people who have ever lived have been saved.
But there is good news.
According to this passage, there are more people saved and in heaven than we can imagine.
- Over the centuries,
- Down through the ages,
- In parts of the world where we had no clue there were followers of the true and living God
God has had His witnesses and multitudes have come to faith.
The majority of people who have ever lived have been lost. But that does not mean heaven will be nearly empty. Untold numbers of souls will fellowship forever in eternal life with Christ.
