Matthew 14:1-3 (KJV)
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.

Imagine the burden of guilt that must have weighed upon Herod that he thought Jesus was John the Baptist risen from the dead!
Someone will claim that it was just because Herod was superstitious and that enlightened people of modern days wouldn’t think that way. It’s not true. Superstitions may have changed some of their names and maybe a bit of their focus but they are as alive and active today as ever.
- Guilt
- Shame
- Regret
These things, compounded over time, move men and women to believe amazingly exotic ideas.
- They must excuse their actions.
- They must find some way to deal with the pain inside them.
- They must believe that there is hope of relief.
And they must, in their minds, find that hope anywhere but in God.
Thus their superstitions:
- Their problems originated from their parents
- Their problems are repressed in sexual frustrations
- Their problems are the result of gender misidentification
- Their problems will end in the grave
The answer to their problems is found in a simple touch from Jesus Christ. Would to God they would seek Him!
