Matthew 27:41-42 (KJV) Believers Believe by Faith

Matthew 27:41-42 (KJV)
Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
As much as things change, so much the more they are the same.
The chief priests and scribes and elders said that if Jesus would come down from the cross they would believe Him.
  • Haven’t we all wished even prayed that God would do something so miraculous so undeniable that people, especially those we love and those in power would believe in Him?
  • Haven’t we cried out in anguish because it just seemed so obvious that, if God would just answer this one prayer, or that one, these people would believe?
But so often He doesn’t answer.
When it seems so clear that:
  • For the good of mankind,
  • For the good of a family,
  • For the good of a church,
He should answer, He doesn’t.
Two thoughts:
One, it would not have been for the good of anyone had Jesus come down from the cross.Salvation was accomplished on the Cross. Praise God He did not come down!
Two, never forget these men were mocking.Truth is that no one believes for the miracles. Jesus did them and thus proved Himself to be the Christ but believers believe by faith, not by miracles.
