Zechariah 8:6 (KJV)
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.
This should be taken as one of those, “with God all things are possible” kind of statements. The things that God does are so beyond our abilities that we cannot help but view them with wonder.[i]
- When God parts the Red Sea,
- When God stacks the Jordan in a heap,
- When God became man and dwelt among us,
- When God died for sinners though He was righteous
These defy explanation and are marvelous in our eyes.
But to God they are merely, God being God.
He is so far beyond us that we can’t imagine what He can do and has done and He can’t imagine anything else.
[i] This suggests to me that many things attributed to God are not – they may be the product of a man’s obedience to God but they are not those marvelous things that take our breath away for lack of explanation.
