Genesis 46:34 (KJV)
That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
That ye shall say, Thy servants’ trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
Being an abomination unto the Egyptians was no insult.
The Jews had a distinctive lifestyle that, though honorable and honest, was abominable to the Egyptian people. Rather than being insulted by the Egyptian’s disgust for their craft, God, and the Jews, used it to their advantage.
It served to keep them separate and distinct.
This world is never going to accept the Christian:
- Message,
- World view
- Culture,
- Faith and
- Manner
as their own. It is an abomination to them. They think it is strange and they hate it. But don’t be insulted by that. It’s not a problem. It is exactly as it should be. Use it as the advantage that it is.
It keeps Christianity distinct from the world.
The problem comes not from the worldly distaste for Christianity but from the Christian attraction to the worldly. It is this that brings compromise, dissension and enmity with God.
Now that is insulting.
