Leviticus 18:2-4 (KJV)
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.

On the doorway of a new land God instructed Israel that they were to keep His ordinances.

There was a past culture in Egypt.Over four hundred years they had embraced many of the cultural, political and theological norms of their former masters.

There was a future culture confronting them in Canaan.They could not then know what those new values would be. They could know, because God told them, they were not to embrace them.

God had his own plan for Israel.They were to learn and embrace it.

We, who are Christians, are a peculiar people. We were no doubt molded by the culture surrounding us and we will be tempted by the cultural changes coming before us. New views concerning gender, marriage, history and liberty crop up almost daily.

Culture is rapidly accepting new norms as approved. Nearly anything can be acceptable. About the only thing society deems immoral now is to hold on to morality. The Christian must resist. As light in a dark place and as salt on an open wound, we must hold out for what is good, right and moral according to Biblical standards.
