Galatians 2:2 (KJV)
And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.

There are some things that should be discussed only in private and that, only with those of reputation and authority. There are:

• Questions
• Ideas
• Information a person might possess 

that, to bring it to an open floor merely gives service to disputes.

Our founding fathers understood this.
They met in closed sessions to discuss and hammer out the details of the Constitution. They knew to make public all of the ideas that might be debated could lead to wild speculation, mass anxiety and mob action that would derail their purpose. It’s why they developed a republic rather than a pure democracy. They understood that mob rule can’t reliably create laws good for the whole.

Something similar happens in a church. I was approached this week by one of our members. This member is in charge of a function we are about to hold. Experience has taught me this person has great ideas and can be trusted. But before moving forward with the idea they have for the function they ran it passed me in private. This avoids conflict if, for whatever reason, the idea wasn’t a good on. I was able to approve (or disapprove) without making it public and we are then able to get others onboard before bringing it to the floor.

The concept is not only prudent, it is Biblical.
