2 Samuel 1:23 (KJV) We Do Not Have To Hate

2 Samuel 1:23 (KJV)
Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
David’s love for Jonathan makes sense. They were good friends. Jonathan would not allow his father’s jealousy to change that. I suppose David, as Jonathan had suggested, expected one day that Jonathan would stand beside him in his kingdom. He surely would not have guessed that he would die in battle alongside his father.
What is perhaps more surprising is David’s love for and grief at the death of Saul. He knew that something like this must someday happen but he did not relish the thought.
We do not have to hate anyone. We can disagree with them, even know that one day they will face the judgment of God for their wrong, and still love and honestly care for them.
God make it so.
