Revelation 11:7 (KJV)
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

I am intrigued by the word, war, in this passage. These two are not merely targeted murdered, killed, slain. The Bible says that the beast will make war against them.

Merriam- Webster’s Online Dictionary defines war as,
“(1) a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations
(2) : a period of such armed conflict
(3) : state of war”

It is aggressive, armed and between nations. The Beast’s conflict is not against these two but the nation for which they stand.

And so it is with any hostility a Christian experiences for his faith. It isn’t personally against them, but rather against God and the nation of which He has made us citizens.
