1 Samuel 26:9 (KJV)
And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’S anointed, and be guiltless?

Recently I spent a few days with a preacher friend of mine. We have known each other for two decades. I am sure we would both have called one another friends most of these years. But on this visit I learned some things about him I had never heard. I came away with huge admiration for his integrity and honor.

Some time later I read this passage of Scripture in my Daily Visit with God and was reminded of my friend and how similar his integrity is to David’s. I wrote this poem as a part of that Daily Visit with God.

I Met A Man Like David

I met a man like David
It was but days ago
A man in whom is honor
He is faithful, so you know

He served along another
For years, and did him good
And when ‘twas time for him to lead
His mentor to him withstood

But he kept his wits about him
He gave him praise and favor
Because to this man all his goal
Was to receive the Master’s savor

He has a burden carried long
I think it’s made him strong
He hasn’t asked that others bear
A burden, which to him belongs

He smiles and whistles and says, “God is good.”
And keeps himself real close
To Jesus Christ his Saviour
The One that he loves most

I do not think he is sin free
I know this could not be
But he has a heart that’s after God
And that is plain to see

I pray for God to bless him
And use him as His own
Fill his church with others
The fruit of His seed sown.
