1 Kings 9:1-2 (KJV)
And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

It seems like most of the commentaries want to give Solomon other answers from the Lord, besides this one, but that this was the second time God appeared to him in this particular manner. Either way this is significant. It had been twelve or thirteen years since the Lord had appeared unto him at Gibeon. In the mean time Solomon had occupied himself with building both the house of the Lord and his own house.

Those moments of “special revelation” from God are few and far between for us all. Obviously we love it:

• When God answers prayer in a marvelous way or 
• When great Revival breaks out in our church and home or 
• When the blessings of God upon us are monumental

But this is not the day by day reality of anyone, not even a Solomon in all his splendor.

Most of life is occupied with two things:

• Serving God in His house and
• Taking care of the business of our own

Be faithful in them and, when those special visitations of God happen, we will be in the best position to enjoy them.
