Matthew 9:8 (KJV) The Point of the Gospel

Matthew 9:8 (KJV)
But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
The multitudes credited God as empowering a man. They saw God in it, but they did not see Christ as God. A few verses later (vs 26) they simply told the story of the raising of the daughter, giving God no glory at all. Still later in the chapter the blind men called Jesus “thou son of David” which references His royal blood but not His deity.
The point of the gospels (and the Gospel) is to take men from where they are with Jesus to where Jesus is. All people have different ideas about Christ.
  • He is a powerful man
  • He is an important man or
  • He is just a man and what really matters is humanity
Not until He is seen as God-Man is there hope of salvation through Him. We need no new religions. We need no new churches to tell people about:
  • Miracles or
  • The power of faith or
  • A return to Judaistic faith and practice
What we need is a revived vision of Christ as God, Saviour and Lord.
