2 Samuel 15:30 (KJV)
And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

David left Jerusalem, fleeing from Absalom, up Mount Olivet:
- Weeping
- Head covered and
- Barefoot
He was fleeing from his son but he was going to that place where Jesus would one day pray and promised He would someday return.
Weeping
There are so many disappointments in this life. Though David knew victories and was much blessed of God, still his life, as is true of us all, was harsh. This was especially difficult because his own son caused it.

Head covered
A symbol of submission. David was king but was still submissive to God. If this was the will of God, God’s will be done!

Barefoot
A sign of humility? I think it has to do with being grounded. He is but dust. He must keep his wits about him. Though this was a crisis, it was no time to panic and make hot headed judgments.

We find, in this chapter, that David acted wisely even when under intense pain and difficulty. Good advice for us all.
