2 Chronicles 11:4 (KJV)
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

Rehoboam was legitimately upset. Jeroboam had led Israel in rebellion against the house of David. The animosity that had existed, almost since the moment God anointed David to replace King Saul, had reached its zenith.
- Rehoboam was the rightful heir to David’s throne
- David was the God ordained man to replace Saul
- Jeroboam has rebelled, in the eyes of Rehoboam, not just against him, but against the order of God
But God had another word for Rehoboam. This thing was done of God. He was to let them go and not fight them because, though it was rebellion, it was done of God.
- God never does an evil thing.
- He does often allow things that are not righteous to happen and
- He always uses them for His eventual glory.
In my circle the most obvious application concerns those leaving the church when I know they should not.
I should not fight them
Boy there is an impulse to do this. Still, it serves no good to do it. I would be much better off focusing on the people who stay than the ones who leave.

I do not have to join with them
Over the years many of Judah’s kings, including some of their best, attempted to cooperate, unite with or fellowship with those kings of Israel. It never went well.

I may expect God’s judgment against the rebellion
In God’s time and place He will recompense the evil of the one who turns against the Lord. While He will use the evil they do for a holy end it is not indication of His pleasure with the evil.

I doubt anyone likes to fight. But when bad happens it is much more difficult not to fight than to leave it in the hands of God to bring about His end.
