Acts 7:25 (KJV)
For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

Moses’ supposition was wrong. Fact is, his brethren never did understand. They never got the connection between Moses and God.

Oh, they did follow him into the wilderness, but that was as much out of necessity as faith. They hoped it was true, perhaps wanted it to be true. They wanted out of Egypt badly enough that Moses seemed like their best option. But every time a problem happened it was the same thing; blame it on Moses.

Nothing has changed today. People wrestle with the relationship of the man serving God (whether it is a Pastor, soul winner, or member of the church wishing to encourage and help a struggling believer). It is a mistake to suppose people understand. They just don’t.

But there is a huge difference between Moses attempting to deliver Israel by slaying the Egyptian and Moses forty years later demanding Pharaoh let Israel go. In the former, Moses was looking for Israel’s approbation and acceptance. In the later he was simply obeying God. The servant of the Lord needs to remember this difference. He does not need the understanding of the people nor their approval. He needs only to know he is obeying the Lord.
