John 12:27 (KJV) Pray Away Troubles?

John 12:27 (KJV)
Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
Jesus did not shirk from the course He came to fulfill. Though His soul was troubled; though His course would be painful, agonizing and humiliating, He stayed true.
  • He could have prayed to be saved
  • He could have called the angels to deliver Him
  • He could have simply spoken it to stop
But what good would that have done? His cause was just. His purpose was necessary. No good thing could have happened if He had called it off.
I wonder how often we ask the Lord to call off His purpose in our lives when we discover it will be painful or troubling? We can’t simply speak ourselves out of trouble but we sure can pray it away. What if the thing we avoid is the very cause by which God would be glorified in us? Perhaps we are too quick to pray away troubles and difficulties. Perhaps more care should be taken that we learn whether this trouble is intended by God to honor the Lord.
