John 19:12 (KJV)
And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

This is false and unfounded accusation. It is based on errant assumptions concerning Christianity. The Christian is a friend of authority. He is instructed throughout the Bible to submit to authorities, to pray for them and to support them in every way possible.

The Christian desires peace. He longs for truth to prevail, for right to triumph and evil to be defeated. The Christian sees the Kingdoms of this world as instruments in the hands of his God. He views himself as an ambassador of good, representing his home.

Those who make these accusations do so from both misunderstanding and prejudice. They don’t like our king.

• From those who opposed the rebuilding of Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity
• To those who will stand against Jesus in the battle of Armageddon, 

the issue is the same, they are His enemy because they have chosen to be.

The question isn’t whether we are Caesar’s friends. The question that should be asked is if Caesar could be the friend of Christ.
