Psalms 53:6 (KJV) The Promise of God’s Redemption

Psalms 53:6 (KJV)
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
Except we are told this is a Psalm of David it would not be difficult to picture this passage as speaking of the time of the Babylonian captivity, but it is not. I know of no time when Jerusalem under David was held captive unless we count Absalom. And yet David pled for God to, “bring back the captivity of His people.” David longed that, “the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion.”
I am reminded that we live in a hostile land.
  • Prosperity
  • Safety
  • Quietness and
  • Peace
are not the norm.
Without the rest of genuine faith, without the assurance of God’s good plan, without the hope of eternal heaven then life can look bleak and burdensome.   It is in the promise of God’s eventual redemption of not only the soul but the heavens and the earth that we find meaning and purpose – hope.
