Proverbs 26:1 (KJV) Out Of Place

Proverbs 26:1 (KJV)
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
The lesson of the passage seems obvious. To elevate or in any way honor a person who is foolish is not only out of place but often dangerous, to themselves and others.
  • To put a wicked man in an office of prominence might lead him to usurp unjust authority.
  • To praise a person who lacks humility will likely lead him to a puffed head.
Etc.
There are many things that are wonderful in their place. Snow and rain are both necessary, refreshing and beautiful. But they are inconvenient or worse when they are out of place.
  • Praise is a good thing
  • Humor can be a good thing
  • Compliments can be a good thing
  • Rebuke can be a good thing
  • Promotions can be a good thing
  • Levity can be a good thing
  • Seriousness can be a good thing
  • Laughter can be a good thing
Any of these is necessary and good and proper. Where would we be without them? But just like snow in summer or rain in harvest, put them in the wrong place and they are just, wrong.
