Proverbs 24:15-18 (KJV) The Just and the Wicked

Proverbs 24:15-18 (KJV)
Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
It is common to view these verses as separate nuggets of truth:
A just man falleth seven times and riseth up again.
Rejoice not when things enemy falleth.”
It is key to view them as a complete thought.
To the wicked man
Leave the place of the just alone. Though you may spoil his goods, he will rise again. His fall is not one of failure but through attack. He may be defeated in a battle now and then but he will win the war.
To the just man
Rejoice not when your enemy falls. It seems apparent that this fall is through his own failure. At least that is the implication of the word, “stumbleth.” God cares for His people. We may be assured of His strength, help, grace and mercy. Everything we need for peace is provided. But if we choose to take vengeance into our own hands, or hold a grudge so that we are pleased with the misfortunes of our enemies, God may remove our peace.
We are to, Matthew 5:44-46 (KJV)
… Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
