Revelation 4:1 (KJV) A New Thing Begins

Revelation 4:1 (KJV)
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
Gill remarks that Revelation chapters 1-3 comprises what he calls, “the church prophecy.” This is followed with what he calls, “the book prophecy.” I can see this line of thinking and see how it might be used to understand the several seven-fold prophecies of the Revelation.
Gill, and those of his day, almost defined the various dispensations as different churches. So in his mind there was:
  • The church “Israel” followed by
  • The New Testament Church followed by
  • The Gospel church (which meets in heaven)
While I would challenge the concept of various dispensation churches, the one thing that is consistent is that the New Testament Church is never seen after Revelation chapter three. Revelation 4:1 is a remarkable type of the rapture of the believers into heaven. We are removed from the earth. A new thing begins both in heaven and on earth.
