John 8:14 (KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
Here is a biblical truth that is at once both liberating and frustrating – I can only know me.
Jesus told the Pharisees that He knew whence He came, but that they did not. Regarding Jesus they could only:
- Hear His testimony
- Witness His life and
- Compare that to Scriptures
From there they would each make their decision concerning Him.
Truth is, that’s the best we can do with any person. We can never know their heart. We can’t know their thoughts or motives. All we can do is:
- Listen to their words
- Watch their life
- Compare that to truth
and decide from there whether we wish to be around them or not.
This truth has led to the mobilization of religious inquisitions and resulted in millions of martyrdoms. Frustrated that they could not see the heart, religion has always opted to force the deeds into compliance.
Faith in God trusts Him to deal with others on a spiritual rather than physical level.
To my readers:
First of all, thank you! It is a great joy to me to know you read the thoughts and lessons God has given me in His word. Secondly, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to leave comments.
