Genesis 25:5 (KJV) Give All To God

Genesis 25:5 (KJV)
And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.
There is no type in the Bible more clearly set forth than that of Isaac.
  • Isaac is a type of promise, or the product of it
  • Ishmael is a type of the work of the flesh
So, this passage makes all sorts of spiritual sense. Abraham invested everything in the promise of God. He gave small gifts to the children born of his concubines, but he gave everything he had unto Isaac.
I wouldn’t argue that it is okay to pay tribute to our flesh, but I know we do it. Even we who are saved live in bodies corrupted by the flesh. The best we ever do, the more Christlike we become, we still wrestle with the work of the flesh.
  • We sin
  • We support causes of human concern rather than spiritual
  • We enjoy things that have no value outside this world
We give some tribute to the works of the flesh.
When we reach the end of our life may it be said of us that, while we gave trinkets to the flesh, we gave all that we had unto the promise of God.
