1 Thessalonians 3:4 (KJV) We Should Suffer

1 Thessalonians 3:4 (KJV)
For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
I think it is because, in this country, things have been so comfortable for so long that it is considered:
  • Ill-advised,
  • Inappropriate, perhaps even
  • Radical
to speak of suffering and tribulations as a part of the Christian experience. Those who do suffer are often considered to be unfavored of the Lord. Indeed, there are some who seem to provoke trouble for the purpose of proving their dedication and faith.
On the other hand, the Bible makes it clear that there will be times, places and circumstances that lead to suffering. The Christian must not shrink from such suffering and tribulations.
Now the preacher; he does his congregation no good to ignore these Biblical instructions. I know that same preacher will claim he does not ignore it. He will claim that he just does not emphasize it. But we have created a kind of Christianity that avoids tribulations at almost any cost.
And in so doing we also have lost our savor.
