Deuteronomy 18:9 (KJV) Be Different, Not Isolated

Deuteronomy 18:9 (KJV)
When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
God had a Promised Land for Israel, but it wasn’t free. They would have to liberate it from the Canaanites. They would have to, if you will, work for it. And in so doing, they would rub shoulders with those who were wicked and ungodly. God’s plan did not include isolation from those who did abominations. It did include being different from them. They were not to learn to do as they did.
The applications to modern Christian living are numerable. God has not called us to live in a bubble.
  • We are to live in this world
  • We are to work in this world and
  • We are to receive the promises of God for our life as we walk through this world
It will necessitate that we rub shoulders with those who do that which is abominable to our God. He will not isolate us from those abominations. What He will do is tell us not to learn and do those abominations.
