Deuteronomy 33:29 (KJV) Moses’ Blessing

Deuteronomy 33:29 (KJV)
Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.
The scene is reminiscent of Jacob’s blessing upon his sons. Moses, a father himself, is about to reach his final day.
  • He has led Israel through the wilderness.
  • He has prayed for them.
  • He has talked with God and told Israel what He said.
  • He has loved them.
Moses, in many ways, served as a king over Israel.[1] But he had also served as a pastor over them, shepherding and feeding God’s flock. Now he picks up the role of father and pronounces his blessing upon the twelve tribes. Having watched them these many years he knew them. More importantly, he knew their God.
  • God had blessed them
  • God had saved them
  • God had protected them and
  • God will elevate them
May the people of Christ’s churches be so blessed.

[1] Deuteronomy 33:5 (KJV)
And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.
