Joshua 11:19 (KJV)
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
This is a difficult truth for today’s soft believer to accept, but it is seldom God’s will to make life easy.
Joshua, and the children of God, Israel, entered into the Promised Land. It had been given to Abraham over 400 years previous. The current inhabitants were ungodly and course. You would have thought God might just move them out for Israel. You would have thought God would clear a straight path for Israel. You would have thought that every city would be like Jericho.
Not so.
In fact, there was only one place that made peace, and they did it through deception. Israel had to take everyplace else in battle; hard-fought, overwhelming odds, humanly terrifying battle.
- If such was the case for Israel
- If Jesus was hated in His earthly life
- If Christians for more than 1600 years won their heavenly prize through oppression, persecution and even death
should we flinch at the thought of the same?
Christians in America have been afforded a wonderful privilege; 200 years of comparative peace.
Should we be disappointed with our God if such ease is not our lot?
