Matthew 15:8-9 (KJV) Vain Worship

Matthew 15:8-9 (KJV)
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Notice that these people wanted to worship God, but Jesus said it was in vain. Three causes for vain worship are revealed:
They drew nigh improperly
They used their mouths and their lips. Where were their feet, and their hands? Even more importantly…
Their heart was far from God
Faith is a heart thing. It’s never the head, it’s never the stomach. It’s not even the hands and feet.
They taught the wrong doctrine
The lips and the mouths are involved in worship, just not the first thing. The hands and the feet are involved in worship, just not the first thing. Doctrine must be taught but it must be the Word of God and not the commandments of men, the traditions of men or the philosophies of men.
