1 Samuel 23:4 (KJV)
Then David enquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

This is a powerful passage of leadership.
The people of Keilah were under threat of the Philistines. Israel’s current king, Saul, should have focused on rescuing these people from them. He was so focused on his hatred for David that he was not only unconcerned for their trial but willing to destroy them himself in order to get David. David is the God anointed king. At this stage in his life, David led a small handful of just 600 men. Yet David had the heart to save the people of Keilah from the Philistines.
He inquired of the Lord whether he should help them.
God said, Go.
God said, Go.
His men expressed to David their concern.
They were a threatened group already. A battle with the Philistines would just threaten them all the more.

Then David inquired of the Lord again.
God confirmed that he should save Keilah and fight the Philistines, and his men went with him to the contest.

First, I see in David a heart for souls. Secondly, I see in him an ear for his followers. Thirdly I see in him, and his followers a faith in the Lord.
Very often God asks us to do that which is impossible in the flesh. It is only right to step back a moment, hear the concerns of those involved and be certain that the thing is of God. But then, thank God for those who will trust Him and step out to do the impossible.
